Carrots are still the most popular vegetable in Switzerland. Swiss people ate over seven kilograms per capita last year. Tomatoes rank second. However, if cherry tomatoes were included, they would knock carrots off the top spot.
Last year, Swiss people consumed 81 kilograms of fresh and stored vegetables per person. In 2024, 14,522 hectares were used to grow fresh and stored vegetables in Switzerland, 254 hectares more than in the previous year.
At 264,887 metric tons, the volume of fresh vegetables was around 7,219 metric tons lower than in the previous year. However, at 87,284 metric tons, the volume of stored vegetables was 5,759 metric tons higher than in the previous year. Overall, the domestic supply was 352,171 metric tons, 1,460 metric tons lower than in 2023.
Meanwhile, imports of fresh and storage vegetables rose by 20,994 metric tons to 373,274 metric tons.
