Kaohsiung's Agriculture Bureau, Taiwan, is expanding its fruit export activities to Canada, achieving over NT$10 million (U.S. $ 324,000) in export value through initiatives such as supermarket tastings and educational events.
The bureau disclosed that its sales team engaged with major Canadian supermarket chains to discuss procurement and promotional strategies, according to CNA. Officials highlighted that Kaohsiung has consistently targeted the Canadian market with incentive programs, establishing itself as a primary exporter of guava, jujube, and dragon fruit to Canada.
The promotion team also introduced canned taro from Jiaxian Farmers' Association and organic jams from Chen Jiah Juang at Kuohua supermarket, a prominent Taiwanese food retailer in Canada, as reported by Yam News. These product displays have enhanced the presence of Kaohsiung's agricultural products.
To acquaint Canadian consumers with the quality of Kaohsiung's fruits, the bureau organized three days of tastings for red heart and pearl guava at various major Canadian supermarket chains this week. Traders observed that such tasting events positively influence purchasing decisions. The bureau is contemplating annual promotional campaigns to boost market share and ensure sustainable growth.
In light of recent U.S. tariffs affecting Kaohsiung's edamame exports, the bureau is also promoting edamame from Kaohsiung's Bai Hsien Farm to assist local producers in expanding their market presence and mitigating tariff-related challenges.
