Tatomir Farms in Leamington, Ontario, is actively harvesting rhubarb as the 2025 season progresses. According to owner Dennis Tatomir, "We got an immense amount of rain, and it really skyrocketed the rhubarb." Harvesting activities have been ongoing for a week, with operations expected to continue until the end of June.
Currently, the farm's crew processes approximately 2,000 pounds of rhubarb daily. Post-harvest, the workers remove greenery, clean the stalks, and package the produce for distribution. The primary markets include grocery stores throughout Windsor-Essex and southwestern Ontario. Despite concerns about tariffs, the farm's largest client remains in Boston, Massachusetts. Tatomir states, "We thought it might not go to Boston because of the tariffs, but it is going to Boston. There's no hold back on that yet." The exchange rate benefits the farm financially when exporting to the U.S.
As a seasonal gesture, Tatomir Farms is offering a complimentary slice of rhubarb pie to customers from Tuesday, May 6, to Monday, May 12. These pies are produced by a bakery in Kingsville. Tatomir remarks on the quality, stating, "It's very good."
