China led pepper production in 2023, and Spain ranked fifth

In 2023, the value of the world's fresh pepper production reached 36,699 million euros, setting an all-time record, according to Hortoinfo data obtained from FAOSTAT, the FAO's statistical agency. These data were converted to euros for ease of comparison at an exchange rate of 0.924 euros to the dollar in 2023.

China was the world's leading pepper producer, generating 12,235.7 million euros. Indonesia ranked second with 6,018.2 million euros, and Mexico third with 2,392.25 million euros.

In 2023, Turkey ranked fourth, surpassing Spain by value, with 1,978.62 million euros. Spain ranked fifth with 1,802.78 million. The Netherlands ranked sixth, with a pepper production valued at 579.37 million euros. Morocco ranked seventeenth with a fresh pepper production value of 90.72 million euros.
