Potato Market Report 14th May:

Dry conditions, cautious demand hit EU potatoes

Plantings are now complete in most areas – there are a few areas of heavier land still to be planted, but the majority is now complete. Consumption is as expected with the current spell of warm weather. Conditions are very dry in most regions, with very little rain forecast for the coming week.

Across Europe, processors continue to clear contracts as a priority. Buyers are taking a very cautious approach given the uncertainty over the export market in the coming months, while trade tariffs and their overall effect become clear.

In the U.K., demand is described as only 'steady'. Likewise, conditions are very dry, and many growers are irrigating crops.
