50 kg cocaine seized in St. Petersburg bananas

In St. Petersburg, Russia's Federal Customs Service, in collaboration with the Russian Interior Ministry, intercepted a consignment of cocaine weighing 50 kilograms. The seized narcotics hold a street value exceeding 500 million rubles ($6.2 million), as reported by the agency's press service.

The shipment originated from Latin America, arriving at the Big Port of St. Petersburg. During inspections, customs officials uncovered 50 parcels of a white powdery substance concealed within banana containers. The Federal Customs Service confirmed the substance to be cocaine.

Authorities have initiated a criminal case under the country's drug trafficking laws. The legal proceedings may lead to severe penalties, including life imprisonment.
