Organic potato chips set for September launch

Calbee America has announced the introduction of Weston's Family Farms Organic Potato Chips, marking a new addition to the organic snack segment. Developed in collaboration with Gold Dust & Walker Farms, the chips are made from single-source, USDA-certified organic potatoes and are now available for retailers to order ahead of a September launch. The product comes in three flavors: Sea Salt, Sea Salt & Vinegar, and White Truffle. Each variety is certified organic, gluten-free, and non-GMO, with a wavy-cut design aimed at providing a crisp texture.

The potatoes used for the chips are grown by Weston Walker and his family, who have been cultivating chipper potatoes since 1973. About one-third of the farm's acreage is dedicated to organic production, with 20% of the overall potato output certified organic. Calbee processes the harvested potatoes at its California facility.

The farm practices a range of sustainability measures, including improving soil fertility, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and enhancing biodiversity. The chips will retail at $4.69 per bag. Market data from IRI SPINS indicates that the better-for-you (BFY) potato chip category is growing, with organic chips showing a 139.4% increase over the last 24 weeks as of January 26, 2025.
