Top five orange producing countries in 2025

Oranges remain one of the most popular fruits globally, enjoyed for their sweet taste, juiciness, and high vitamin C content. As of 2025, global orange production is estimated at around 76.41 million metric tons. Among the many countries that cultivate oranges, five stand out for producing the highest volumes. Together, Brazil, India, and China account for nearly 45.4% of the total global output, thanks to their favourable climates and extensive orange groves.

Brazil continues to lead the world as the largest orange producer, with an annual production of around 16 million metric tons. The majority of Brazil's oranges are cultivated in the São Paulo region, which has ideal conditions for large-scale citrus farming. Brazil also holds the title of the world's leading exporter of orange juice, responsible for about 60% of global shipments. A significant portion of its orange harvest is processed into juice for international markets.

India ranks second in global orange production, with an output of approximately 10.6 million metric tons. The primary orange-producing states are Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. India is particularly known for its Nagpur oranges, celebrated for their sweetness and vibrant colour. These oranges are highly regarded both within the domestic market and in exports.

China holds the third position, producing around 7.5 million metric tons of oranges annually. The bulk of Chinese orange farming is concentrated in southern provinces such as Jiangxi and Hunan. In China, there is a strong domestic demand for fresh oranges, and citrus-based products are widely consumed throughout the country.

The United States is the fourth-largest producer, with an estimated annual production of 4.8 million metric tons. Orange cultivation in the U.S. is dominated by two states: Florida and California. Florida is known for producing oranges primarily for juice, while California's output is geared more toward fresh consumption, with popular varieties like Navel and Valencia.

Mexico completes the top five, with approximately 4.2 million metric tons of oranges produced each year. The state of Veracruz is the central hub for Mexico's orange cultivation. Similar to Brazil, a large share of Mexico's oranges is used for juice production and exported to international markets.

These five countries continue to shape the global orange industry, ensuring a steady supply of both fresh fruit and juice to consumers around the world.
