Peruvian mandarin exports grew by 47% in volume in May

Peruvian fresh mandarin exports registered a remarkable growth in May 2025, reaching 25,687 tons shipped worth $32.1 million, a 47% and 42% year-on-year increase in volume in value, respectively. This increase was achieved despite a 3.8% fall in the average price, which stood at $1.25 per kilogram.

The rebound in shipments was mainly driven by higher demand from key markets, especially the United States, Japan, and Canada, which significantly increased their purchases compared to May last year.

In May, Peru exported its mandarins to 18 destinations, three fewer than in 2024. However, this didn't prevent it from surpassing the results of the same month last year. The United States remained the main destination, accounting for 49% of total exports, with 12,649 tons worth $15.7 million. Exports to this destination increased by 34% in volume and 22% in value, but experienced an 8% drop in the average price, which stood at $1.24 per kilogram.

Japan, with a 13% share, stood out for its higher relative growth. Exports to this country skyrocketed by 148% in volume and 151% in value, totaling 2,719 tons worth $4.3 million. The average price was stable and stood at $1.58 per kilogram.

Canada ranked third with a 9% share. Shipments to that market reached 2,498 tons (+23%) and $2.9 million ( 33%). The average price increased by 8%, standing at $1.15 per kilogram.
