Colombia grows sweet potato exports to Europe

PURO FINCA and CAM Agroindustry have launched a joint initiative to develop Colombia's presence in the European sweet potato market. The companies plan to cultivate 500 hectares of sweet potatoes in 2025, with a focus on both fresh exports and processed products such as flour, starch, and frozen chips.

While sweet potato has not historically been a major crop in Colombia, growing demand in Europe has created expansion opportunities. The two companies report that they are adopting sustainable farming practices and industrial processes aimed at meeting the quality standards of European Union markets.

According to a CAM Agroindustry spokesperson, the goal is to build a supply chain that includes not only fresh exports but also a broader range of processed goods, positioning Colombia alongside major exporters like the United States and Egypt.

In addition to exports, CAM Agroindustry is offering production capacity for international partners seeking white-label services. This would allow European companies to market Colombian-produced sweet potato products under their own branding.

The initiative also includes an open call for partnerships with European distributors, retailers, and food industry companies. PURO FINCA and CAM Agroindustry state that their efforts are aimed at developing long-term, collaborative trade relationships based on reliable supply and product quality.
