French cherry production on the rise according to Agreste

As of May 1st, 2025, French cherry production for the 2025 season is expected to be up
by 6% compared with 2024 (and by 15% compared with the 2020-2024 average), according to the Agreste economic outlook published last week. The production forecast is subject to change as a result of possible weather or health events until July. In the main producing countries, Spain and Turkey, losses have been reported for the 2025 harvest.

By production basin:
In Occitania, production is expected to be 19% higher than last year. In the Roussillon region, production is set to rebound sharply from last year, following a long spell of drought and a very low harvest in 2024. In the Garonne Valley, frost on early varieties is not expected to affect production levels. Flowering went well, but it is behind compared with last year. The area under production is likely to be smaller than in 2024. In Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, flowering, although one week later than in 2024, went well, and the load on the trees is satisfactory. With no notable climatic events at this stage, production is forecast to be 5% higher than last year, despite a 4% drop in surface area. Finally, in the PACA region, production is forecast to be similar to the previous season. Flowering was abundant, and the surface area is expected to be reduced by 1% from last year.
