A study by Murdoch University, alongside the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, Fruit West Cooperative, Bruker BioSpin, and the Future Food Systems Cooperative Research Centre, investigates the influence of Bravo apple and pear consumption on cardiovascular and diabetes risk factors.
Participants in the Apple Study consume two apples daily for eight weeks and two pears for another eight weeks, with the order randomized. The research involves analyzing participants' chemical fingerprints to observe changes reflecting diet, metabolism, and health.
Analysis at the Australian National Phenome Centre revealed Bravo apples contain compounds like chlorogenic acid and quercetin, linked to blood sugar regulation, glucose tolerance improvement, weight management, and blood pressure control.
According to Associate Professor Ruey Leng Loo, "Bravo apples are naturally rich in a diverse range of bioactive compounds, including polyphenols, which are known for their antioxidant properties and potential health benefits."
The initiative, through scientific innovation, supports local industries, aids growth, and promotes healthier eating.
