Celebrating the International Day of Potato

Today, on International Day of Potato, Peak of the Market Ltd. and the Keystone Potato Producers Association recognize the dedication and hard work of Manitoba's potato growers. As the fourth-largest potato producer in North America, Manitoba plays a significant role in supplying potatoes throughout Canada and the United States. Together, it's highlighting key sectors of the industry— fresh potatoes, processing potatoes, and seed potatoes—and the vital role they play in the food systems.

This day is an opportunity to celebrate the essential role potatoes play—not only in consumers' diets, but also in the economy, environment, and food security.

"As a proudly grower-owned organization, we take pride in our role within the supply chain, helping to deliver fresh, Manitoba-grown potatoes to consumers across North America", said Pamela Kolochuk, CEO of Peak of the Market Ltd. "We remain committed to supporting local agriculture and ensuring access to high-quality vegetables from seed to plate."

Manitoba is home to three major potato processing facilities. Processed potato products are the province's second-largest agri-food export to the United States, contributing significantly to value-added food production across Canada.

"Keystone proudly represents Manitoba's processing potato growers and works closely with the province's major processors to strengthen and sustain a thriving industry," said Susan Ainsworth, general manager at Keystone Potato Producers Association. "These growers are dedicated to producing top quality potatoes through environmentally sustainable practices."

Together, the two recognize the importance of collaboration in building a strong, sustainable future for Manitoba's potato industry.
