Brazil completed its first Hass avocado shipment to Chile

Brazil's fruit sector reached an important milestone when it sent its first official Hass avocado shipment to the Chilean market. The shipment, made by the Carlini Avocados company, marks the beginning of a new stage for this product in Brazil's foreign trade.

The shipment is part of the strategic internationalization actions carried out by the Brazilian Association of Producers and Exporters of Fruits and Derivatives (Abrafrutas) in collaboration with the Brazilian Agency for the Promotion of Exports and Investments (ApexBrasil). These actions include the Frutas do Brasil Festival - Chile, held on May 28 at the Ritz Hotel in Santiago; an event attended by Chilean importers, authorities, and representatives of companies and institutions linked to the international fruit trade.

The opening of the Chilean market for Brazilian avocado was possible thanks to a joint effort between Abrafrutas, the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA), and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE). These institutions worked closely together to ensure compliance with the Chilean authorities' phytosanitary and regulatory requirements.

Chile is the world's second-largest per capita consumer of avocados, behind Mexico. According to data from the Chilean Avocado Committee, the country's per capita avocado consumption reached 8.6 kilograms per person in 2024, up from 8.2 kilograms the previous year. This increase reflects high domestic demand and Chilean consumers' preference for the fruit.

Brazil exported more than 24,000 tons of avocados in 2024. During the first quarter of 2025, the country has already exported more than 6,000 tons of avocados, confirming the growing global interest in this product. São Paulo, Brazil's main avocado-producing state, concentrates almost 45% of national production. According to the Institute of Agricultural Economics (IEA – Apta), in 2023, São Paulo produced 192,000 tons of avocados, 8.54% more than in the previous year.

"The shipment of avocados to the Chilean market represents an important achievement, the result of a coordinated effort that demonstrates Brazil's capacity to serve markets around the world," stated Eduardo Brandão, executive director of Abrafrutas.

Abrafrutas, founded in 2014, brings together approximately 70 associated fruit producers and exporters, and accounts for nearly 85% of the total volume of fresh fruits that Brazil exports. ApexBrasil develops various actions to promote Brazilian products and services abroad and to encourage the arrival of foreign investment in strategic sectors of the national economy.

The first Hass avocado shipment to Chile reinforces Brazil's position as a supplier of quality fresh fruits and strengthens commercial ties with one of the world's most important avocado-consuming markets.
