Recent meteorological conditions in Himachal Pradesh have affected various agricultural operations. Mid and lower hill areas experienced varying degrees of rainfall, while tribal regions saw mild snowfall, leading to colder conditions in nearby valleys. Thunderstorms, squalls, and hailstorms resulted in extensive damage to fruit crops, particularly in the Bilaspur district. The damage spanned 250 hectares, impacting 112 horticulturists, with losses estimated at US$62,400. The horticulture department is currently assessing the overall impact.
The Javansh nallah in Chamba district posed challenges for commuters, with reports of a close call for some women crossing the area. Despite the adverse weather, snowfall in tribal areas has increased tourist visits to Kullu and Lahaul, and Spiti districts.
Shimla and other regions, including Kangra, Mandi, Solan, Hamirpur, Una, and Kullu, experienced thunderstorms with sharp showers. The local meteorological station issued an 'orange' alert for potential thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds in several districts, and a 'yellow' warning for Shimla town. The forecast includes dry weather on April 23 and potential rain or snow on April 22, 24, and 25 due to a new western disturbance.
