In April, Russia imported tomatoes from China worth $9 million—the highest level in six years and the strongest since May 2019, according to Chinese customs data analyzed by RIA Novosti. This represents a 5% increase compared to April 2023 and positions Russia as the leading importer of Chinese tomatoes, overtaking Kyrgyzstan.
Potato imports also surged, rising 19-fold year-on-year to a record $11.2 million. Cabbage exports to Russia grew by 11% compared to April last year, reaching $4.5 million. Meanwhile, onion exports from China to Russia fell by 14%, totaling $6.1 million.
Cumulatively, in the first four months of the year, Russia increased its imports of Chinese tomatoes by 8% to $26.6 million. Potato imports rose 22-fold to $22.2 million, while cabbage imports grew by 25% to $13.1 million. Onion imports also saw a 20% increase, reaching $25 million.
