Martina Garletti of McGarlet Srl (Italy):

"Market expansion, higher consumption, and an optimistic future"

The global avocado market continues to thrive. According to the latest estimates, exports of the green fruit could reach 3.9 million tons by 2030. This growth is primarily driven by strong demand in the United States and the European Union, the two main import markets. Once again, Latin America is leading the way in terms of supply, with Peru at the forefront of the new season.

Peru's peak production weeks are expected to be between the 21st and 29th, during which there will be an abundant supply of medium-to-large fruit. This is a significant increase compared to last year. This suggests that the season could be particularly good. In July, we anticipate an increase in the availability of smaller fruits. We are very confident about the Italian market because consumers increasingly appreciate these sizes of fruit, suggesting that consumption of the product will increase," explains Martina Garletti (pictured on the right), McGarlet's purchasing manager. "The quality will remain high."

Garletti continues, "The U.S. market, which is more familiar with avocado consumption, shows a greater willingness to pay high prices for quality products." It's no coincidence that Peru is paying close attention to the U.S. market, to which it will allocate a significant portion of its upcoming avocado supply. Meanwhile, consumption continues to rise in Europe, particularly in Italy. In our country, per capita consumption is less than one kilogram per year, but it is steadily rising. Demand for ripe fruit packaged in various formats is growing, suggesting greater consumer confidence in the product. The avocado market is doing well in Italy, and we are happy to see that the largest avocados are also the most highly valued."

One reason for the avocado's success is undoubtedly its reputation as a superfood
Avocados are rich in healthy fats, vitamins, and minerals. They are becoming increasingly popular among those who follow a healthy lifestyle. Their organoleptic properties make them an ideal food for balanced and tasty diets. "The incoming produce is healthy, tasty, and plentiful, and an excellent opportunity to introduce it to a wider audience. The avocado market is lively and promising, both globally and nationally. While the world focuses on the millions of tons traded each year, Italy is carving out its own space with rising consumption and growing attention to product quality. A trend that is expected to consolidate," concludes Garletti.
