Fresh lychees from Zhanjiang, Guangdong province, China, are reaching supermarkets in Guangzhou within 24 hours, aiming to boost market penetration during the harvest period. The Guangdong agricultural and rural affairs authorities, in collaboration with local supermarkets, have initiated a campaign to diversify sales channels for local farmers.
At Yonghui Superstore in Guangzhou's Huadu district, Zhanjiang-produced lychees have been in demand during the Duanwu Festival period. The strategy integrates farm sourcing, rapid cold chain logistics, and targeted marketing to enhance consumer access to fresh lychees. "The innovative model, which includes direct sourcing from farms, fast cold chain transportation, and precise marketing, allows consumers to taste the freshest lychees and helps raise income for lychee farmers," stated Chen Rong from Guangdong's agriculture and rural affairs department.
This approach underscores the role of logistics in agricultural distribution, focusing on synchronizing the harvest with consumer availability efficiently.
