Gebr. Peters Fruithandel is celebrating its 125th anniversary this year. The milestone was marked on Saturday, 21 June, at the scenic venue Brasserie aan de Vijver, located at Rijnstraat 6 in Maurik, together with 250 attendees, including colleagues, friends, customers, and suppliers.
In 1900, at just 18 years old, Eef Peters began working in a shop on the Klinkenberg in Ingen. He later moved to the Brei in Ingen and established himself as a tradesman. Eef became active in the fruit trade, and his sales area soon expanded beyond the Betuwe. Fruit was purchased (as far away as Olst and Wijhe), processed, and sold across the Rhine with a small truck. In 1920, Eef expanded his activities with his sons Kees, Eef, and Bart to include seed trading and an insurance business. Kees later continued the business with his sons, Hannes and Eef.
In 1983, the company was split: Hannes continued the fruit trade, while Eef focused on the insurance business. In 1992, Hannes' two sons, Kees and Paul, took over the fruit trade and have managed the business to this day. They grow and trade top fruit, which is sorted and processed daily at their packing station for their customers. Their sales area now spans across all of Europe. Today, the family company has developed into a modern operation focused on growing, cooling, sorting, and trading, all driven by a passion to deliver the highest quality fresh fruit every day.
Peters Fruithandel looks ahead with confidence. The family business will be passed on to the sons and/or daughters of the current owners, Kees and Paul. In the coming years, the focus will be on ensuring a healthy transition of the business to the next generation.
