New HPP system to expand juice production in Portugal

Quintus Technologies has announced the installation of a QIF 400L-5400 High Pressure Processing (HPP) system at Frubaça, a Portuguese fruit and vegetable producers' cooperative. The system is expected to significantly increase production capacity for COPA, Frubaça's brand offering fruit juices, smoothies, and purées without preservatives.

The installation is scheduled for July 2025 at the COPA Fruit Centre in Acipreste, near Alcobaça in central Portugal. The region is known for its IGP-certified apples, which form part of the cooperative's product portfolio.

The new equipment is part of Frubaça's efforts to expand its product line amid increasing demand for clean-label food and beverage options. HPP technology, which inactivates pathogens using high pressure rather than heat, helps extend shelf life while maintaining nutritional content. It has been part of Frubaça's processing operations for many years.

Jorge Periquito, Director at Frubaça, noted the company's long-standing engagement with the technology, beginning with its first HPP system acquired over two decades ago.
