Between January and April 2025, the share of Moldovan apple exports to CIS countries fell to 54%, compared to 72% during the same period in 2024. According to Logos Press, this continues a downward trend, as last year the CIS share dropped below 80% for the first time in Moldova's recent export history.
Data from the Moldova Fruct Association shows that during the first four months of this year, the primary CIS markets were Russia and Belarus, which imported 28,800 tonnes and 1,600 tonnes of Moldovan apples, respectively.
Meanwhile, Romania emerged as the largest buyer within the European Union, importing 21,000 tonnes. Its share in Moldova's total apple exports rose to 37%, compared to 19% during the same period last year.
Exports to the United Kingdom more than doubled, reaching 340 tonnes. Ukraine, which was not previously a major buyer, imported 506 tonnes during this period.
Moldova also increased its maritime exports. Over four months, apple shipments to Saudi Arabia exceeded 1,100 tonnes.
