Following the introduction of the Honeyglow pineapple, Del Monte has now launched the Honeyglow banana in the European market. The first shipment of Honeyglow bananas was unloaded in Rotterdam last Friday.
Honeyglow bananas are grown exclusively in the fertile volcanic soils of Ecuador. They are hand-selected at peak ripeness to ensure optimal sweetness and flavour for European consumers. "We have deliberately chosen a cautious introduction. With a premium concept like this, it's not about pushing volume but about guaranteeing quality. It really needs to stand out above the rest," says Rob Euser, Senior Commercial Director Northern Europe at Del Monte.
The Honeyglow bananas come from the well-known Cavendish variety, but according to Rob, only the very best are selected for this premium line. "Due to the limited volumes, we are initially targeting premium greengrocers and wholesalers in key European markets. Availability will vary with the seasons, but we aim to expand and eventually include production from our own plantations in Costa Rica and Guatemala," Rob adds. The bananas are shipped in extra-large boxes with a minimum net weight of 19 kilos. Honeyglow bananas are easily recognised by their striking gold-coloured packaging with black honeycomb patterns and black fruit stickers.
