In the first quarter of the year, EU fruit and vegetable imports from Morocco amounted to 1,121 million euros, i.e., 14% more than in the same period of the previous year and following the upward trend of recent years. The volume grew by 9%, totaling 512,689 tons.
Tomatoes remain the EU's most imported Moroccan vegetable, accounting for 369 million euros in the first quarter, 2% more than in the first quarter of 2024. They are followed by peppers, with 90 million euros (+7%) and green beans, with 68 million euros (-11%), according to Eurostat data, analyzed by Fepex.
Imports of these vegetables fell in volume. Tomato imports decreased by 10%, totaling 188,259 tons; pepper imports stood at 63,669 tons (-1%), and green bean imports fell to 27,990 tons (-16%).
Fruit imports in the first quarter experienced notable growth. Avocado imports stood out, as the EU imported 62,68 tons (101%) for 176.7 million euros (+79%).
Eurostat data show that the import of fruit and vegetables from Morocco continues to grow steadily. From 2023 to 2024, imports increased from 1,369,063 tons to 1,419,153 tons (+4%). The value increased by 8%, going from 2,509 million euros to 2,713 million euros.
In these two years, tomato imports increased by 18%, going from 492,438 tons to 579,815 tons. The value increased by 3%, going from 972 million euros to 999 million euros.
