"We've had an eventful first quarter for blueberries in 2025," says Robbert Leisink of FruitFul Berries from Venlo. "From week 1 to 8, we saw excellent volumes of consistently high quality from Chile. But just as quickly as Chile entered the market, it tapered off again."
"The volumes available from Morocco in January initially signaled a promising season with high yields. Unfortunately, that hasn't materialized so far. We're seeing only minimal volumes on the market, accompanied by high prices. Growers are getting good returns, but not the volumes they hoped for — and it remains uncertain whether Morocco will deliver those volumes at all."
"Huelva has so far only marketed the Snowchaser and Cupla varieties at exceptionally high prices. Only last week, the sun finally came out with high temperatures, so Spanish volumes should slowly begin to increase. A higher supply on the market should also help ease prices, paving the way for major consumer promotions again."
"But given the way things have unfolded in recent weeks, we must remain aware that nature ultimately has the final say. No field forecast can change that!"
