Potato Market Report 30th April:

Potato plantings resume under price pressure

Consumption is reported to be lacklustre after the holiday period and another period of warm weather. Plantings were temporarily halted last week due to weather conditions but will continue now again in good conditions. Planting progress was slower in the northeast to date compared to the south of the country.

Across Europe, physical prices have come under some pressure, with some growers looking to clear stores in anticipation of an early new season. Factories are keen to clear contracts, but there has been a small amount of interest in the free buy sector recently from buyers looking for "contract top up".

In Scotland, planting is almost complete, but some growers are still holding back with certain varieties to avoid potential frost damage.
