For the first time, Sofruileg will be exhibiting at the renowned Macfrut trade show until Thursday, May 8th, in Rimini. This Italian event with an international dimension is aimed at professionals in the fruit and vegetable sector. It is the perfect opportunity to present new varieties of kiwis to a European audience. "Macfrut is a very fruit-focused event, and it is a good fit for us breeders and publishers. This year, we decided to focus on presenting two varieties for which we are the publishers: a green kiwi variety and a yellow kiwi variety," explains François Lafitte, chairman of Sofruileg.
Haewon: a new high-productivity green kiwi variety
As a result of climate change, winters are shorter, and trees are no longer getting the amount of cold needed to reach their optimum production potential. "This new Haewon green kiwi variety provides a solution to the lack of winter cold affecting Southern Europe. It is a very productive variety, even in mild winters, because it needs less dormancy than current varieties. Haewon is therefore an interesting solution for traditional kiwi-growing regions that have lost productivity due to a lack of cold winters."
Haegum: a new yellow kiwi variety to extend the marketing season
Alongside Haewon, the new yellow kiwi variety Haegum will be presented at Macfrut. Haegum has two major advantages. It is a variety with high production potential, but it also has a long shelf life, which means that it can be marketed until May. We have this variety available for all of Europe."
