U.S. apple storage down five percent compared to 2024

According to a monthly survey, the total number of apples in storage on May 1, 2025, was 72 million bushels, five percent less than last May's total of 76 million bushels and 16 percent more than the five-year average for that date.

Fresh apple holdings this May totaled 52 million bushels, two percent less than the inventories reported for last May. Processing holdings totaled 20 million bushels, 12 percent less than last year on May 1.

This report captures more than 95 percent of the national storage capacity.
