The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has issued a recall for Fruit Dôme brand thyme due to contamination with pathogenic E. coli. The recall was announced on May 14, 2025, and is categorized as a Class 1 recall, indicating a high health risk. The affected product is Fruit Dôme brand thyme, packaged in 500-gram containers with Lot Number 127. No Universal Product Code (UPC) is associated with this product.
The thyme has been distributed to warehouses in Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Quebec. The recall was triggered by the detection of pathogenic E. coli, a bacterium capable of causing severe foodborne illness. Symptoms of E. coli infection may include nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea, which can become severe in vulnerable populations such as young children, the elderly, and individuals with compromised immune systems.
Fruit Dome Inc., the company responsible for the product, is cooperating with the CFIA to ensure the removal of the contaminated thyme from distribution channels. The CFIA has initiated an investigation, and additional recalls may follow if further contaminated products are identified. Consumers, retailers, and distributors are strongly advised not to use, sell, serve, or distribute the affected thyme.
Anyone who has purchased the recalled thyme should dispose of it immediately or return it to the place of purchase. Those experiencing symptoms after consuming the product should seek medical attention.
