South Australia produce exports to Canada up 44 percent

South Australia's fruit and vegetable exports to Canada have grown significantly, increasing by 44% to reach $4.8 million over the past 12 months. This growth comes as part of a broader surge in trade between the two regions, with total exports to Canada nearly doubling to $663 million, making Canada South Australia's fifth-largest export market.

The rise in horticultural exports reflects successful efforts by the Malinauskas Government to help local producers diversify and tap into new international markets. While mining, energy, and beef exports have contributed to the overall increase, fruit and vegetables are emerging as a key growth segment.

Supporting this momentum, more than 30 South Australian wineries and food producers were represented in Toronto and Montreal in May during the Wine Australia North American roadshow. The initiative, backed by the Department of State Development's North America office, aimed to connect South Australian producers with Canadian importers and distributors.

Further promotion of South Australian produce was seen in April through a retail and tasting campaign in Ontario, conducted in partnership with the Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO)—one of the world's largest alcohol retailers and wholesalers. While the focus of the campaign included wine, it also served as a platform to raise awareness of South Australia's broader agri-food offering.

The state's trade and investment offices in New York, Washington DC, Houston, and San Francisco continue to assist local businesses in expanding their reach into Canada. These efforts are helping to solidify South Australia's reputation for high-quality produce in an increasingly competitive global market.
