Within a few weeks, the renovation and structural upgrading projects at the Cesena Market will be awarded and ready to begin. These projects are worth around €6 million in non-repayable funds obtained through a tender won by FOR through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). "This is a project of great technological and plant engineering value," explains Alessandro Giunchi, who has led the market since 2019 and was recently confirmed for another three-year term. "The market will feature the most innovative air conditioning and energy-saving equipment as part of our commitment to safety, well-being, and the digitalization of processes."
The main projects to be carried out are insulating and air conditioning the entire market, upgrading the cold rooms next to the market with new, efficient refrigeration technologies, installing a photovoltaic system and storage systems to provide the facility with energy autonomy, and digitizing control and logistics processes." The tender for the project is underway.

FOR the Cesena-based company that manages the market, 2024 closed with a turnover of over one million euros, marking an 11% increase and a profit similar to that of previous years. A few days ago, the FOR Assembly approved the balance sheet, confirming Giunchi's position as head of the company. The balance sheet showed that FOR spends approximately €500,000 each year on market services and other costs. Of this amount, around €50,000 is returned to operators working within the market for shared initiatives, as has been the case in recent years.
Giunchi adds, "These costs also save operators money on waste management, an important cost for Italian markets today. It also allows customers free access to the facility, unlike other markets. At the same time, the market supports customers through shared initiatives with operators, such as logistics reviews, parking arrangements, and information about the energy benefits of the photovoltaic system installed in last year's project."
FOR has invested in local and international promotions, covering approximately 60 percent of the associated costs through a regional tender submitted through the Emilia-Romagna Markets Network. By participating in the Enterprise Network, FOR has been able to attend major trade fairs in the sector and engage with industry professionals. FOR also contributes to the development of the regional Solidarity Logistics project.
For the past three years, FOR has been an active participant in the Italmercati Network, which consists of 22 of the main agrifood centers and wholesale markets in Italy. As an Italmercati partner, FOR participated in all activities organized by the network at the International Congress of Wholesale Markets.
