China boosts ASEAN fruit imports via Guangxi ports

A promotional drive focusing on fruits from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) was initiated on June 18, 2025, in Nanning, the administrative center of China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

Li Shuo, the deputy director of the Department of Commerce of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, presented at the ceremony, emphasizing key aspects of customs clearance facilitation at Guangxi's ports. He stated, "Guangxi offers significant port advantages, with efficient and convenient procedures designed to meet the fast customs clearance needs of ASEAN fruits and premium goods from member countries of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP)."

Guangxi operates 22 ports, ranking fourth nationally by number, with 12 designated supervision facilities for imported fruits. Among these, Youyi Pass, also known as Friendship Pass, is one of the country's primary land ports for importing fruits, proving instrumental for durians, mangosteens, jackfruits, and other ASEAN fruits entering China. Notably, seven out of every 10 durians imported into China enter through this port.

The region has set up specialized service windows for imports at its ports, facilitating green channels for agricultural products. This strategy aims to expedite customs clearance for fruits, targeting completion within six hours. Further enhancements include minimizing detention times and implementing a continuous appointment-based customs system to retain freshness.

Guangxi is advancing a China-ASEAN port inspection and quarantine mechanism, heightening inspection capabilities. The region has also embraced paperless processes for imports, progressing towards smart port constructions along the China-Vietnam border to optimize ASEAN fruit procedures.
