Japan boosts imports of Vietnamese fruits and vegetables, frozen products gain traction

Vietnamese exporters are making headway in Japan's high-demand food market, with frozen fruits and vegetables emerging as a key growth area. Aeon TopValu Vietnam's General Director Shiotani Yuichiro noted that Japan's freezing technology allows produce like mangoes to retain quality and extend shelf life, enabling annual exports of around 450 tons of frozen mangoes, as stated and reported by ZNews.

Other notable shipments include 62.5 tons of mini okra from An Giang, over 150 tons of grilled eggplant from Lam Dong, and more than 120,000 packages of bell peppers and sweet potatoes. These products are processed and frozen in Vietnam to meet Japan's strict standards and consumer preferences.

Aeon recently hosted a "Vietnamese Goods Week" in Japan, showcasing fresh fruits and flowers to positive feedback. The event supports Vietnam's broader export strategy, tapping into Aeon's networks across Japan, Hong Kong, and Cambodia.

Japan's demand for tropical fruits, coffee, and cashew nuts remains strong, especially as domestic production is limited. The growing Vietnamese community in Japan, now nearly 635,000 people, also fuels demand for homegrown products.

While Vietnam's post-harvest tech still lags, freezing is helping bridge the gap. As exporters scale up and refine their processes, Japan is proving a promising market for high-quality, well-preserved Vietnamese produce.
