There has been much to improve when it comes to storing fruits and vegetables in India. As a result, Aeden Fruits has built a new cooling facility in order to keep the newly imported fruits as fresh as possible, says Mr. Kamaruddeen, managing director for Aeden Fruits. "Imported fresh fruits into India deserve to be handled with utmost care and the right logistical requirements ensuring efficacy and quality till the last mile delivery or the last leg of every supply chain activity. This very need has made Aeden think about designing a model that will ensure that the fresh fruits imported into India will be handled and brought to the customer's plate with the same level of quality and freshness as the brand intended it to be consumed."
According to Mr. Kamaruddeen, the need for a facility like this will only grow as domestic consumption of imported fresh produce grows as well. "The new facility ensures that all fresh produce imported by us will be of benchmark quality, thereby increasing brand presence and better market share. As customers are being made aware of the variety our industry has to offer, we are committed to bringing as many different varieties of fruits as possible to the table to cater to the domestic demand. The Indian fresh fruit consumption market is bound to grow at an increased pace of 7.6% CAGR (Compound Annual Growth Rate) from 2025 to 2029, which will lead to more organized players and more vertical integration happening. Foreseeing this change, we have equipped ourselves to be the frontrunners in the industry, bringing an organized, structured, systematic, state-of-the-art, technology-oriented, and infrastructurally capable solution to cater to the rising Indian demands and aspirations when it comes to fresh fruits."
Mr. Kamaruddeen emphasizes that there's a shift going on in consumer preferences. The price of fruit is no longer the most important factor. Instead, consumers look for better quality, better shelf life, and more luxurious varieties: "The average urban Indian today explores many different exotic varieties of fruits, wherein cost is not the primary purchasing factor, but quality and variety certainly are. As for the semi-urban and rural population predominantly in South India, the purchasing power parity of an average middle-class Indian is rising, leading to increased demand for top existing import categories like apples and citrus, which will certainly lead to integrations like ours. Our strong insight into the industry, collaborated with generational experience, will help us project the industry into a better realm, through our integrated cold-chain facility. Bringing a very strong structure to an industry that is not fully organized yet and building the organization in a data-driven and technologically relevant manner is by far our biggest strength."
The new facility was officially inaugurated about two weeks ago and is now in full operation, Mr. Kamaruddeen explains. "Our facility has already commenced operations for three months. However, we officially inaugurated our integrated facility on June 1st, 2025, which involves the cold store facility with office space as our HQ office in Cochin, India. Currently, we are able to handle more than a dozen containers simultaneously, while ensuring steadfast operations and time-bound dispatches and deliveries around the clock."
The new cooled storage facility has been a long time coming: "The construction of our integrated state-of-the-art facility took almost two years, from inception of the idea to the day of its first operational day. We currently cater to all kinds of imported fresh fruits ranging from apples, citrus, pears, avocados, berries, cherries, grapes, mandarins, tangerines, stone fruit, grapefruit, and many other exotic fruit varieties," Kamaruddeen concludes.
